30 Day Blog Challenge: The Hunt for a Job

3 Nov

Recently I have been on the hunt for a job, which should be easy considering the holiday season and all.

Yet I fail to consider that college kids in addition to those who like to like extra shifts in the holiday season. So the question is how to agriculture students stand out in the midst of everyone who is applying for jobs.

Make your agriculture experience work for you. For example if a someone raised animals through organizations like 4-H or FFA then that directly translates into:

  • Communication skills
  • Dedication
  • Problem solving skills
  • Hardworking
  • And public speaking skills

The trick (that I have learned over time) is to apply the skills that you have, and realize that over time how the experiences no matter how minuscule have shaped your life. The early morning experiences of feeding animals made you hardworking (and gave me a strong appreciation for coffee), and when loading animals to take the fair made you the ultimate problem solver.

These experiences make applying for job relatable no matter what the position. It may seem like figuring how much hay you need for the rest of the month isn’t a employable skill, but I swear it is. In fact some might call it math.

Have a great rest of your weekend,
